46-Year-Old Manteca Woman Fatally Injured in Bike Crash along Yosemite Avenue
MANTECA, CA (April 22, 2018) – A collision involving boat trailer and a bicycle on Highway 99, claimed the life of a cyclist, late Sunday morning.
The victim was identified by the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office as 46-year-old Tammie Leandro of Manteca.
According to the Manteca Police, the accident happened around 11 AM, when Leandro was trying to turn northbound from Yosemite Avenue onto Highway 99 on a ramp. For unknown reasons, the cyclist headed straight for the rear of a pickup truck that was pulling a boat trailer.
Leandro struck the bumper of the vehicle before falling under the trailer. Multiple motorists that witnessed the accident attempted to get out from the right rear axle and wheel area of the boat trailer under the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. When the firefighters arrived, they immediately jacked the trailer up and placed wooden blocks to keep it lifted; however, the woman had already succumbed to her injuries. She was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency personnel.
Investigators stated that the cyclist might not have noticed the boat trailer ahead. They continue to investigate the cause of the fatal collision. Affected areas were shut down for both motor and foot traffic as authorities. No additional information has been disclosed at this time.
