Light Rail Train Involved in Fatal Collision Near Washington Street
PHOENIX, AZ (December 22, 2019) – The authorities confirmed that Tameka Spence died in a wrong-way crash on 1st Avenue on early Sunday morning.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the incident happened near Washington Street at approximately 2:00 AM.
Reports showed that the victim’ vehicle traveled the wrong-way when it struck a light rail train.
The 30-year-old woman died in the incident.
Crash impact knocked the light rail train off the tracks and a light pole was also knocked down.
Based on an evaluation, the operator of the light rail was sober at the time of the crash. It is unclear if Spence was impaired; however, police say speed was a factor in the crash.
No further information was provided. However, an investigation into the accident is ongoing.
