TACOMA, WA (January 24, 2021) – Saturday night, a Tacoma police officer was involved in a crash on South Ninth Street and Pacific Avenue.

At around 6:20 p.m., the authorities received reports about vehicles and people blocking South Ninth and Pacific Avenue. According to reports, some vehicles were doing burnouts and doughnuts.

Upon the authorities’ arrival, they discovered that a crowd of around 100 people gathered at the scene. Thus, the officers started clearing the intersection.

Afterward, a Tacoma police officer in an SUV arrived and was swarmed by people banging on the parked vehicle and its windows in an aggressive way.

Thus, the officer attempted to back up but failed to do so. As he attempted to leave, the officer continued forward and struck one person and possibly others.

Meanwhile, Tacoma Police Officer Wendy Haddow stated that she suspects a man fell under the SUV as it drove forward and was run over.

After finding a safe location, the officer called for medics. Then, responders took the man to a hospital. At this time, the authorities haven’t disclosed the condition of the pedestrian.

“I was shocked, I was shaken, I was confused, I was scared. This officer just ran this group of people over and then fled the scene,” a woman said. “I want justice for the people who just got injured. Squad car 2815 needs to be held accountable.”
