Victim Car Rear-Ends Parked Semi Truck on 5 Freeway in Sylmar
SYLMAR, CA (February 19, 2019) – Tuesday afternoon, one person was fatally injured in an accident on 5 Freeway near the Highway 14 Interchange.
The fatal crash happened around 12:22 p.m., when a black Mercedes Benz slammed into the back of a parked semi-truck. First responders arrived along the northbound lanes to find the car stuck underneath the semi-truck.
Preliminary reports from the Los Angeles County Fire Department indicated that the details leading up to the collision are unknown at this time.
Aerial video from Sky5 showed the front end of the Mercedes completely wrecked.
Responding paramedics pronounced one patient dead on scene. The identity of the victim was not available pending next of kin notification.
Furthermore, a SigAlert was issued in the area after the crash. CHP officials also called for hard closures on the westbound 210 and 5 Freeway truck lanes. Traffic was backed up on the highway during cleanup and preliminary investigation, but has since reopened.
