Fatal Motorcycle Accident on 5 Freeway in Sylmar
SYLMAR, CA (May 5, 2019) – A motorcyclist was killed in a traffic accident Sunday morning on 5 Freeway in Sylmar.
The crash occurred around 7:45 a.m. in the Newhall Pass near Balboa Boulevard.
CHP officials said the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on 5 Freeway when it crashed into the center divider. The impact sent the rider about 100 feet off the roadway and into the right shoulder embankment of Roxford Street off-ramp.
Officers arrived on the scene and found a body with a white hoodie. Paramedics pronounced the rider dead at the scene.
A coroner was immediately notified to pick up the victim’s remains.
The crash blocked the northbound right lane and truck bypass lanes of the 5 Freeway near the Highway 14 connector for several hours, with CHP officials issuing a Sig Alert. The alert was lifted just after 11:00 a.m.
The incident remains under investigation.
