1 Injured in Castaic Car Crash on 5 Freeway
CASTAIC, CA (March 6, 2020) – A suspected DUI driver sustained injuries in a head-on crash on the 5 Freeway in Castaic on March 5.
California Highway Patrol dispatchers began receiving reports at about 5:08 a.m. The report was about a wrong-way driver on the northbound 5 Freeway near Smokey Bear Road, revealed Officer Josh Greengard with the CHP Newhall Area Office.
Upon hearing the initial reports, the California Highway Patrol officers then received reports of a head-on crash near Templin Highway.
“He went head-on with a UPS semi [truck],” Greengard stated.
The Aftermath and Arrest
The crash consequently left the vehicle driver with injuries, and he required hospitalization. After being transported to the hospital, the driver was booked on DUI charges.
Fortunately, the collision between the vehicle and semi-truck saved other people’s lives, Greengard added. The accident probably interjected a larger, possibly deadly incident.
The crash led officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office to thus issue a SigAlert blocking the No. 1, 2 and 3 lanes.
By 7:30 a.m., the lanes reopened.
Meanwhile, the suspect’s identity remains unreleased. However, Greengard said that the suspect is a Simi Vally resident.
