Driver Hurt after Gig Harbor Police Chase
GIG HARBOR, WA (July 30, 2019) – Authorities arrested a suspect following a police chase on Olympic Drive on July 29.
The incident started about 5:30 a.m. when Tacoma Police saw a hit-and-run car. However, the driver didn’t stop and escaped, Trooper Johnna Batiste revealed. After that, a WSP trooper found the vehicle along Highway 16 and tried to pull it over. Unfortunately, the car still sped off to the west.
Troops utilized tire spikes near Jackson Street and popped the tires. The driver then lost a rear tire but still tried to flee on rims across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, Batiste added.
At Olympic Drive NW, the car finally stopped. However, the driver remained inside the vehicle and declined to surrender to the police.
Authorities used a non-lethal round to break driver’s side window. The driver then went out of the car and tried to escape but the trooper caught him in no time.
Responders treated his cuts to the face due to the broken glass. Batiste added that troopers will book him into jail for charges including suspicion of DUI.
