Suspect Arrested after High-Speed Chase on Hollywood Boulevard near Highland Avenue [Los Angeles, CA]

1 Detained after Los Angeles Car Accident

LOS ANGELES, CA (January 11, 2019) – A person accused of stealing a vehicle started a wild high-speed chase which caused circumstances like crashing into curbs, traffic lights and other vehicles while trying to escape.

The chase began on the Van Nuys area when a white business van was caught speeding on surface streets. The suspect then collided into a curb and a fence before backing up and knocking down a traffic light nearby.

The authorities were not able to stop the reckless driver instantly because he went on driving unto southbound 405 Freeway into Sherman Oaks. The driver then drove onto the southbound 101 Freeway, still speeding until exiting near Hollywood Boulevard.

Upon exit, the driver somehow slowed down but ended up being in between vehicles. It then collided into the rear of one of the vehicles. As a result, the vehicle was pushed into the car in front of it and the van then collided into that car and spun it around while it drove through the off-ramp.

The van driver still continued and drove at a high speed on surface streets. The suspect didn’t yield despite several red lights, almost crashing into pedestrians and other vehicles, until he ended up on the heavy traffic of Hollywood Boulevard near Highland Avenue.

Due to this, the suspect tried to make a turn but he hit a curb and lost control. Two parked vehicles were struck by the van until it stopped on the curb near a meter. A man went off the vehicle but the authorities were already able to exit their vehicles with guns pointed at him to stop from escaping.

The authorities also helped passengers and drivers out of the nearby vehicles and brought them to safety.

The man was detained while authorities continued their search inside the van. The crash remains under investigation.
