Police Investigate Multi-Vehicle Crash on 176th Street E in Pierce County

Pierce County, WA (September 30, 2024) – On Monday morning, a 41-year-old driver was arrested in a multi-vehicle crash on 176th Street E.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD), the chase began when deputies attempted to stop the driver for a traffic violation in Spanaway, but he failed to comply and drove toward a deputy, prompting the pursuit.

The suspect led deputies on a nearly 10-mile chase, during which he collided with a vehicle at 176th Street E and Canyon Road E, losing a wheel in the process but continuing to flee. 

The pursuit ended in a second crash involving at least two other vehicles in the 8400 block of 176th Street E. 

Witnesses reported that the suspect crossed into oncoming traffic and t-boned another vehicle, causing a third vehicle to crash into the scene.

Despite the severity of the crashes, no serious injuries were reported. The suspect was arrested and is under investigation for second-degree assault, attempting to elude police and possession of a controlled substance. 

Officers also found firearms and narcotics in his vehicle. The suspect was taken to a hospital after claiming he ingested narcotics.

A witness at the scene recorded the aftermath of the crash, which showed significant damage to the suspect’s vehicle and the other cars involved, as well as traffic backups caused by the incident. 

The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by police.
