FRESNO COUNTY, CA (April 26, 2021) – Sunday morning, passenger Summer Eitel, 39, suffered fatal injuries in a U-Haul fiery crash on Highway 99 and Manning Avenue.
The accident occurred at about 8:00 a.m. on northbound Highway 99, south of Manning Avenue.
According to reports, the U-Haul truck driver lost control and went off the road. Then, it fell down an embankment near the Manning exit.
Eventually, it crashed into a tree which smashed the engine compartment into the cab of the truck.
A Fresno-area CHP officer witnessed how the U-Haul caught fire.
Then, the officer and a citizen freed the driver from the U-Haul. However, they weren’t able to save the passenger, Carmichael resident Summer Eitel, before the truck was fully engulfed with fire.
Furthermore, responders took the U-Haul driver to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
