1 Dead in Plumas County Auto Accident on Highway 162 near Bucks Lake
PLUMAS COUNTY, CA (September 29, 2021) – Monday night, a passenger died in a rollover crash on Highway 162 near Bucks Lake.
Reports said that a 17-year-old female drove a 2004 Honda. She traveled east on Highway 162, west of Grubbs Cow Camp, west of Bucks Lake. Moreover, the incident happened at around 7:50 p.m. while the weather was cool, rainy, and foggy.
According to reports, two passengers rode with the driver. One of them sat in the right front (a 20-year-old woman from Oroville). Meanwhile, the deceased passenger sat in the rear of the Honda. She was a 17-year-old Plumas Charter School senior.
Reports confirmed that the driver hit the brakes to slow for a left-hand curve in the road. Then, the driver lost control of the Honda due to the wet surface.
Afterward, the vehicle went off the south road edge, fell down an embankment, and hit a boulder. Then, it overturned and landed on its roof.
As a result, the driver suffered moderate injuries, and the 20-year-old sustained major injuries. Responders took both of them to Plumas District Hospital. Eventually, responders transferred the 20-year-old to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
The authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
Meanwhile, the Bucks Lake Fire, Meadow Valley Fire, Plumas District Hospital, the sheriff’s office, and the CHP all came to the scene.
By 9:30 p.m., the ambulance headed to the hospital to transport the injured patients.
