SUV Overturns after Striking a Pedestrian in Strawberry, Injuries Reported
STRAWBERRY, CA (January 21, 2019) – A pedestrian was injured after being hit by a car Monday afternoon in Strawberry, just West of Lake Tahoe.
The incident happened around 2:52 p.m. on westbound Highway 50, just West of Strawberry Road near mile marker 42.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 15-year-old male pedestrian was crossing from the northbound side of the road to the westbound side, watching the westbound vehicles for a safe crossing, unaware of the eastbound Chevy Tahoe when he walked across Highway 50.
The driver of the SUV swerved to the right to avoid the pedestrian, clipping him as the vehicle went off the southbound side of the road. The SUV then collided with a stump and overturned, ending up about 20 feet down a slight embankment.
The pedestrian was found lying on the side of the roadway with injuries. The patient was rushed to a hospital by paramedics for proper treatment.
Nobody in the Chevrolet was injured, according to the CHP. The vehicle was pulled out of the snow and towed away from the wreckage.
The incident is still under investigation.
Whenever you are about to leave a driveway, be sure to properly scan the roadway before you enter. Look left, right, and then left again before you proceed. Also, check for pedestrians that might be on the road or sidewalk. Little things like this can prevent a major collision from happening.
