STOCKTON, CA – Woman Seriously Injured after Struck by Big Rig on 5 Freeway at Eight Mile Road

Female Pedestrian Hit by Big Rig after Stepping into Traffic on 5 Freeway in Stockton, Major Injuries Sustained

 
STOCKTON, CA (March 18, 2019) – A 43-year-old Stockton woman was seriously injured after being struck by a big rig Monday afternoon in Stockton.
 
The incident happened around 4:07 p.m. along the northbound lanes of 5 Freeway near the on-ramp from Eight Mile Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman stepped out of her white sport utility vehicle and walked from the right shoulder directly into the path of the oncoming big rig.
 
The driver of the big rig had very little time to react and swerved to the left in order to avoid the pedestrian. The pedestrian continued walking into the traffic lane and was struck by the right side of the big rig’s trailer.
 
This impact threw the woman into the air before coming to rest within the third lane. Witnesses along with several other vehicles stopped to render aid.
 
Responding paramedics transported the woman to San Joaquin County Hospital with major head injuries.
 
The second and third lanes of the freeway were closed for about 20 minutes during the rescue operation.
