Katha Penny and Steven Mon Injured in Deadly Crash on Highway 154 [Santa Ynez Valley, CA]

3 Injured in Fatal Santa Ynez Valley Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 154 near Meadowvale Road

SANTA YNEZ, CA (October 10, 2022) – Sunday morning, Steven Mon, 52, and Katha Penny, 60, died in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 154 near Meadowvale Road.

The fatal accident happened at around 10:30 a.m. on Highway 154 near Meadowvale Road.

According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the accident involved three unidentified vehicles.

Moreover, responders pronounced the driver of a CMAX, dead at the scene. The unidentified man is of Santa Maria residence. Then, paramedics transported three occupants of one of the vehicles with non-life-threatening injuries.

Later reports revealed that an Anaheim man, driving a Toyota Highlander, sustained injuries in the crash. Authorities identified the person as 52-year-old Steven Mon.

Another individual injured was 60-year-old Katha Penny of Oxnard, whose vehicle, a BMW X5, overturned in the crash.

Furthermore, CHP closed both directions of the highway between Edison Street and Highway 246 to give way to the responders. All lanes on HWY 154 have long since reopened.

Meanwhile, the Santa Ynez Valley crash remains under investigation.
