50-Year-Old Oakland Man Struck and Killed by Car near 150th Avenue
SAN LEANDRO, CA (May 10, 2018) – A fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident occurred on the Interstate 580, on Thursday night. The deceased victim was identified by the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau on Friday as 50-year-old Stephen Courtway of Oakland.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Courtway was walking east on the right shoulder of the westbound lanes of Highway 580 when struck by a car. The crash took place near the 150th Avenue exit, at 10:07 PM.
CHP spokesperson, Officer Dan Jacowitz, stated that the unidentified vehicle didn’t stop to help the injured victim and fled from the scene. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported him to the Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, where he later died. There is currently no description of the hit-and-run driver, or the vehicle involved.
