Injuries Reported in Sacramento Auto Accident on Highway 99 and Fruitrudge Road
SACRAMENTO, CA (July 30, 2023) – Friday night, a startling wrong-way crash on Highway 99 and Fruitrufge Road injured 1 person.
The incident happened at about 10:45 p.m. on northbound Highway 99, north of Fruitrudge Road.
According to investigators, the 19-year-old driver from Sacramento drove his 2013 BMW the wrong way while he was under the influence of alcohol.
Then, the teenage driver sideswiped a 2019 Toyota being driven by a 20-year-old Orangevale woman.
As a result, the BMW veered sideways into a 2020 Dodge being driven by a 27-year-old man from Modesto.
The crash caused both cars to catch fire after the front end of the Dodge broadsided the BMW. Then, the Dodge also struck a 2015 Lexus in the next lane over, being driven by a 31-year-old woman from Modesto.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they immediately transported the Dodge driver to a hospital in critical condition.
Meanwhile, the Lexus driver and Toyota driver sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.
Then, the authorities took the 19-year-old driver of the BMW into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing injuries. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
