Injuries Reported in Apple Valley Auto Accident on State Route 18 and Milpas Drive
APPLE VALLEY, CA (August 7, 2024) – Tuesday morning, a woman suffered injuries in a startling semi-truck crash on State Route 18 and Milpas Drive.
The incident involving a white Toyota Camry and a Double Eagle tractor-trailer occurred at around 9:15 a.m. on State Route 18, about one mile east of Milpas Drive.
Firefighters from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District arrived on the scene and called for a medical helicopter to airlift the sedan driver to a trauma center. Initially, the patient was transported by ambulance to St. Mary’s Medical Center and then flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
California Highway Patrol Officer X. Rodriguez reported that the woman in the sedan was traveling eastbound, while the semi-truck was heading westbound. For reasons still unknown, the sedan crossed into the westbound lanes. The semi-truck driver tried to avoid a head-on collision by swerving onto the left dirt shoulder.
The semi-truck driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital by ground ambulance.
SR-18 was closed in both directions for about an hour to allow for the investigation and removal of the vehicles. The California Highway Patrol Victorville Station is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
