Houston Auto Accident on West Sam Houston Tollway
HOUSTON, TX (March 21, 2024) – Wednesday afternoon, a police chase ended in a startling rollover crash on West Sam Houston Tollway.
A black vehicle overturned on the shoulder, while a nearby minivan displayed side damage. Children were seen at the scene, but law enforcement has not confirmed any connection between the two vehicles.
The incident began around 2:05 p.m. on the I-610 South Loop when a vehicle with fake paper plates ran a red light. Police attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled, leading officers on a chase.
The pursuit ended on the South Sam Houston Tollway near West Road. The Houston Police Department has not disclosed the number of occupants in the suspect vehicle or any injuries sustained.
Despite the clearance of lanes, traffic remains slow in the area, with northbound delays reported to Hammerly Boulevard and southbound delays to Gessner Road according to Houston TranStar.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
