Injuries Reported in Laredo Auto Accident on Mines Road and Interstate 35
LAREDO, TX (April 23, 2024) – Saturday morning, a startling police crash on Mines Road and Interstate 35 injured 1 person.
The incident began in north Laredo, around the Mines Road area, and ended up in what law enforcement agencies term a “splash down” when the vehicle plunged into the Rio Grande River.
The pursuit was initiated on Rancho Viejo Dr., adjacent to the riverbank of Father Macnobe Park. From there, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that a Chevy Tahoe SUV fled from Mines Road, heading southbound on I-35.
As the vehicle approached the Mexico border, individuals were observed jumping out of the SUV. DPS noted that one man sustained injuries upon impact with the ground. The chase concluded in the Rio Grande River, with the driver successfully traversing the river and entering Nuevo Laredo.
Efforts are underway to collaborate with Mexican authorities to locate the driver on the other side of the border. However, DPS Sergeant Erick Estrada expressed concern, stating, “But this a person who doesn’t care about human lives and does not care just because of the acts he did during the vehicle pursuit and how dangerous it became.”
Upon inspection, five migrants were discovered inside the vehicle, yet only one was transferred to Border Patrol custody. The injured individual was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
