1 Hurt in an Olympia Auto Accident on State Avenue and Chambers Street
OLYMPIA, CA (May 29, 2024) – Early Monday morning, 2 men were arrested after a startling hit-and-run crash on State Avenue and Chambers Street.
Reports said that the incident occurred at around 1:00 a.m. on State Avenue Northeast and Chambers Street, near South Bay Road.
The crash impact overturned the victim’s SUV, according to Olympia police Lt. Paul Lower. Inside were an adult woman and two children, ages 13 and 11. The 11-year-old sustained a hand injury.
The driver of a Mercedes-Benz fled the scene, but police found the vehicle’s license plate among the crash debris. This led them to an address on 42nd Avenue Southeast near Boulevard Road in Olympia. While an officer waited for backup at the address, a Chevy Camaro slowly passed by, with the officer recognizing the Mercedes driver in the passenger seat based on the license plate information and the victim’s description.
The Camaro pulled over, and as police approached, the two men inside allegedly pretended to be asleep. Both were arrested. The Mercedes driver faces charges of DUI and hit-and-run with injury, while the Camaro driver was also arrested on suspicion of DUI.
