Injuries Reported in San Diego Auto Accident on La Media Road and Otay Mesa Road

SAN DIEGO, CA (September 9, 2024) – Saturday night, a startling DUI crash on La Media Road and Otay Mesa Road injured 2 people.

The incident happened at about 11:45 p.m. on La Media Road and Otay Mesa Road.

The San Diego Police Department reported that a 24-year-old woman was driving a 2012 Honda Accord southbound on La Media Road late at night, nearing the intersection with Otay Mesa Road. Around the same time, a 51-year-old man was heading eastbound on Otay Mesa Road in a 2017 Toyota Prius.

The Honda driver ran a red light, colliding with the Prius. The Honda’s front passenger was thrown from the car, suffering significant injuries including facial cuts, a fracture near the left eye, and a concussion. The Toyota driver sustained a fractured sternum. Despite the serious injuries, both parties are expected to recover.

Authorities suspect alcohol may have played a role in the accident. The Traffic Division is continuing its investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
