Injuries Reported in Independence Vehicle Crash on Interstate 70 and Lee’s Summit Road

INDEPENDENCE, MO (August 27, 2024) – Early Monday morning, a startling auto accident on Interstate 70 and Lee’s Summit Road injured 1 person.

The incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Interstate 70, just west of Lee’s Summit Road.

According to reports, a Dodge truck heading east collided with a trailer-mounted MoDOT sign that was in place to safeguard a street sweeper. 

Then, the impact caused the driver to lose control, leading the truck to veer off the highway and overturn. Two passengers were thrown from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries, requiring hospitalization. The driver suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries. 

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
