Santa Rosa Man Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver while Changing Tire on 5 Freeway
LOS BANOS, CA (November 12, 2019) – A man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while changing tire Tuesday on 5 Freeway in Los Banos.
CHP officials said a 51-year-old Stanley Crossland of Santa Rosa was driving a white GMC pickup truck and towing a flatbed trailer when he pulled onto the shoulder of the southbound lanes, just north of Mercey Springs Road.
Crossland was changing the left rear tire of the trailer when he was struck by a vehicle, which fled the scene.
Arriving units found Crossland unconscious under the trailer. They performed CPR but Crossland died at the scene.
Authorities are questioning every area gas station, truck stop and store about the accident while trying to determine what type of vehicle struck Crossland.
Investigation of this fatal crash is ongoing.
We offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Stanley Crossland. We hope that the investigation of authorities will end up bringing justice wherever it is due.
