Melquesided Garcia, Joshua Abanathit, and Consuelo Puerco Injured in Collision on Interstate 5
Cottonwood, CA (May 8, 2020)– A collision on Interstate 5 between a semi and a car left three people injured on late Wednesday morning.
Red Bluff California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Omar Valdez said that three people were hospitalized after the incident.
CHP reported that the collision happened on May 6 at about 11:10 a.m. near Sunset Hills. The crash involved a 2005 Toyota Corolla against a semi-truck.
The sedan driver identified as Melquesided Garcia, 22, of Orland was traveling in the right lane with the semi. Valdez said that Garcia failed to pay attention to the slow speed of the semi. Thus, the sedan ended up colliding with the rear of the semi.
Garcia and the front-seat passenger Joshua Abanathit, 18, both from Orland were wearing their seatbelts during the incident. They both suffered minor injuries, Valdez said.
Consuelo Puerco, 23, of Orland was with a 10-month old baby in the back seat. Valdez said that Puerco was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor to moderate injuries. Meanwhile, the baby was uninjured but was rushed to Mercy Medical Center along with the others.
Furthermore, Khosrow Petrossian, 61, of Sunland, the semi driver did not sustain any injuries.
Moreover, officials temporarily turned down the lanes and reduce the Southbound Interstate 5 to one lane.
