Pierce County, WA (February 28, 2023) – On Saturday, a 54-year-old Tacoma man and his dog died while a 51-year-old Spanaway woman sustained injuries in a Spanaway Loop Road 2-vehicle crash.

The fatal collision happened near the 16500 block area near the southwest shore of Spanaway Lake.

According to the investigating officers, the man was northbound in a green Acura when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle crossed the center turn lane and both southbound lanes before it struck a white Jeep Wrangler occupied by one 51-year-old Spanaway woman. Officers added that the man was driving recklessly by passing cars in the center turn lane.

The paramedics took a woman in the Jeep to a hospital with serious injuries.

Unfortunately, the authorities declared the 54-year-old man and his dog dead at the scene.

The authorities said the investigation determined the Acura driver was at fault.

Accidents While on the Road

The Washington Traffic Safety Commission has a plan titled “Target Zero”, with the goal of decreasing deaths and serious injuries on Washington’s roadways to zero by 2030. Despite this, accidents statewide continue to take the lives of hundreds each year.

2021 was the deadliest year on the road that the state of Washington had seen for fifteen years. As a matter of fact, Seattle had 30 traffic deaths that year, a 16-year-high, and 11 fatal injuries in the first five months of 2022, according to a Seattle Department of Transportation report.

Traffic mishaps like the Spanaway Loop Road 2-vehicle crash are a major public health threat and a leading cause of death for people ages 5-64. Therefore, we must know what to do if in case we encounter traffic accidents.
