Samantha Cunha Arrested in Fatal Road Rage Crash in Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD, CA (January 21, 2020) – A woman died after being run over by her friend in a chaotic road rage incident early Tuesday in Hollywood.
The confrontation that led to the death began after midnight on Sunset Boulevard, according to police.
Police said a Mercedes-Benz carrying two women was involved in a minor collision with a motorcycle. When the motorcyclist turned onto Martel Avenue, a residential street, the women pursued him.
In front of an apartment complex on Martel Avenue, the passenger got out of the car to confront the motorcyclist.
In maneuvering the Mercedes, the driver, 26-year-old Sophia Ardalan, hit a tree and was partly ejected from the car, becoming pinned between the car and the tree.
Her passenger, 27-year-old Samantha Cunha, ran back to the vehicle and tried to move it, and ended up running over Ardalan.
As Ardalan was lying on the ground with fatal injuries, Cunha fled the scene on foot.
Police arrested Cuhha shortly before 8:00 a.m.
The motorcyclist stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Los Angeles police said it is not clear whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
