3-Year-Old Girl Dies in Collision near Manon Avenue
HAYWARD, CA (October 29, 2018) – A little girl was killed in a pedestrian crash in the 400 block of Shepard Avenue, late Monday afternoon. The deceased victim was later identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau as 3-year-old Sophia Alvarenga Pena.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 3:55 PM, near the intersection of Manon Avenue. Currently, no details have been released on the events leading up to the fatal collision.
An initial report showed the girl was found by first responders down in the roadway and was immediately taken to the hospital in critical condition. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff.
Police officers stated that the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated during their investigation. The cause of the incident was not yet determined, and it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the fatal crash.
No further information regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident has been released at this time, as the authorities continue to investigate.
