Phoenix, AZ (December 14, 2023) – On Wednesday night, 50-year-old Sonya Martinez died in a crash on 38th Street.

According to the police, Martinez collided with a car near 40th Street and Shea Boulevard and then left the scene. The earlier collision resulted in no serious injuries. 

However, at approximately 8:45 p.m., just moments later, Martinez, while traveling west on Shea, entered oncoming traffic and collided with an eastbound Ford near 38th Street on Shea Boulevard.

Martinez lost her life at the scene of the accident, while a man and a woman inside the Ford were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities are currently investigating the crash, and the reason Martinez crossed into the opposite lanes remains unclear.
