Juan Aguilera and Jose Maduena Injured in Fatal Thermal Crash
THERMAL, CA (June 28, 2019) – A woman was killed following a two-vehicle crash Friday morning in Thermal, authorities said.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the woman Saturday as Socorro Verduzco, 46, of Coachella.
The crash happened around 5:30 a.m., on Harrison Street near Airport Boulevard.
According to reports, 17-year-old Juan A. Aguilera was driving a 2001 Toyota Corolla when he fell asleep and drifted into oncoming traffic. The Corolla then collided head-on with a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 51-year-old Jose Maduena of Coachella.
Verduzco, a middle front passenger in the Silverado, was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the truck upon impact. She was later pronounced dead on scene.
Paramedics took both drivers and another passenger in the Silverado to Desert Regional Medical Center for further treatment. However, there has been no update on their current condition.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, which still remains under investigation.
We would like to share our comfort and well-wishes to the family and friends of Socorro Verduzco. At times like this, we hope they find peace and strength.
