Five Vehicles and a Loaded Log Truck Crash on Three Lakes Road
SNOHOMISH, WA (January 8, 2018) – On Monday morning around 11:20 AM, a large crash involving a loaded log truck from Yakima-based Wyss Logging and 5 other vehicles was reported at Three Lakes Road between Monroe and Snohomish.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the log truck was driving westbound on State Route 2, when an eastbound SUV crossed the centerline near 88th street. The log truck swerved into the eastbound lanes to avoid a head-on collision, resulting in a spillage of the log load. Loose logs spilled on US 2, just east of the interchange with Highway 9, said Trooper Heather Axtman of the Washington State Patrol.
Four other cars then struck the log truck and landed in dry grassy ditches on both sides of the road: a red semi truck and its trailer; a white work van of a Monroe electrical company; a white Chevrolet pickup truck; and a Lincoln SUV that was flipped on its roof. The fifth vehicle was a Toyota pickup truck that was stopped in the middle of the road, and had frontal damage from hitting debris from the crash.
One woman was transported by air to Harborview Medical Center with critical injuries. Three other people were hospitalized, with one person needing medical aid for trouble breathing.
All lanes on the State Route 2 were blocked for about 3 miles between 88th Street and SR 9 for several hours. Traffic was detoured through Snohomish while troopers investigated and cleared the crash site. Over tens of thousands of pounds of logs had to be cleaned up. Both directions of the road were reopened that same night, around 6:30 PM.
Crashing into large vehicles can be extremely dangerous and cause damage to both you and your car. It is important to remain alert and aware of your surroundings, especially when driving alongside big trucks that carry heavy loads.
