Skydiver Killed after Crash with Big Rig in Acampo on Highway 99
ACAMPO, CA (September 30, 2019) – Officials say a skydiver was killed after crashing with a big rig in Acampo on Thursday, September 24.
The female took off from the Lodi Parachute Center and landed on the shoulder of Highway 99 near East Jahant Road.
According to CHP Officer Reuben Jones, a group of seven parachutists were descending around 2:00 p.m. There, a 28-year-old Hispanic female skydiver collided with the rear of a big rig.
Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the crash site due to the extent of her injuries.
The woman’s identity was not immediately available, but the CHP stated she was from Colombia.
Furthermore, the rest of the group landed safely.
It’s still unclear why the female skydiver drifted onto the freeway at this time. However, witnesses describe strong winds at the time of the incident.
Officials shut down one of the lanes during the investigation. It is now open, according to the CHP.
We express our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims during this time of grief.
