22-Year-Old Man Hospitalized after Skateboard Collision with Vehicle near Quivera Road
SAN DIEGO, CA (September 16, 2018) – A skateboarder was severely injured Sunday evening following a car collision on West Mission Bay Drive. The identity of the 22-year-old victim was not immediately released to the public.
According to officials with the San Diego Police Department, the incident took place at about 8:40 AM in the 1300 block of West Mission Bay Drive near Quivera Road.
As per reports, a man fell off his skateboard and ran after it into traffic. As he was running onto the opposite side of the street, the skateboarder was struck by a westbound Nissan sedan.
The victim sustained head and internal injuries, including multiple limb fractures, and he was not expected to survive. He was transported to the Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Meanwhile, the 25-year-old man driving the Nissan stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the collision. Additional information will be released following the conclusion of the investigation.
