Eduardo Cardel Hernandez Hospitalized after Skateboard Accident in Santa Paula
Santa Paula, CA – On Friday, Paul Zavala Jr. accidentally struck and injured skateboarder Eduardo Cardel Hernandez on Telegraph Road.
Paul Zavala was driving his 2006 Chevrolet truck eastbound on Telegraph Road, when a skateboarder crossed the road at the same time.
Mr. Cardel Hernandez crossed from north to south and moved directly into the direction of the passing Chevrolet truck.
Thus, the truck and the 20-year-old skateboarder collided.
Moreover, officers said there were no crosswalks in the area. Also, the lighting conditions were poor.
Because of the impact, the skateboarder was propelled into the westbound lane of Telegraph Road.
Immediately, Zavala parked his truck on the right side of the road and called 911.
Eduardo Cardel Hernandez suffered major head injuries. Rescuers rushed the skateboarder to Ventura County Medical Center. He currently still remains hospitalized.
On the other hand, Zavala did not sustain any injuries from the accident.
Authorities closed the Telegraph Road for a short time after.
Moreover, officers’ said alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this collision. The crash is still under investigation.
On Tuesday night, authorities were able to reach Eduardo Cardel Hernandez’s family.
Meanwhile, anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to call Ventura Area CHP at 805-662-2640.
Who to Turn to in Case of Road Accidents
While car accidents are far more common than pedestrian accidents, there is still reason to be wary when traveling on foot. “Pedestrian accidents do not occur as much as motor vehicle accidents, but the pedestrian accidents tend to include more serious injuries,” says Tyler Toomey, a practicing attorney at Sweet Lawyers.
“Some of the worst pedestrian incidents involve minors because they are sometimes hard to see and they also ride bikes, skateboards, etc. Common locations for these pedestrian incidents include shopping center entrances and street corners.”
