Police Chase Leads to Multiple Injuries after Accident at East Vista Way
VISTA, CA (August 8, 2018) – At least six people were injured Wednesday afternoon, following a DUI crash on State Route 76.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred shortly after 2:20 PM on East Vista Way. Officers stated that a driver of a Nissan Sentra was speeding on E Vista Way near Gulpher Canyon Road, while tailgating other cars with its high beams on.
When officials attempted to pull over the vehicle, the Nissan driver blew through a red light on Old River Road, initializing the pursuit towards SR 76. The chase ended in an accident with a westbound Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Corolla.
According to the paramedics, six people were hurt in the incident. The victims were the Nissan’s driver, a 20-year-old man from San Marcos, his four passengers, and a 65-year-old man that was driving the Hyundai. The driver and a passenger in the Toyota were uninjured. At least three people were hospitalized.
The Nissan driver is expected to be booked into county jail on suspicion of felony DUI, felony evading and felony evading causing injury. No additional information has been released as the investigation continues.
