1 Dead in Mount Vernon Car Accident
MOUNT VERNON, WA (March 22, 2019) – A shoplifter was killed Wednesday on Freeway Drive after a car struck him during a police pursuit.
Reports revealed that the four-year veteran officer chased the suspect when he ran across the roadway near Walmart. The officer utilized his Taser. As a result, the suspect fell into the road, and a passing car struck and killed him.
The crash occurred around 8:25 p.m. A witness called to report about the suspect just south of the store, near Burgermaster and gave a description to dispatchers.
Upon the officer’s arrival, he spotted a man close to the description given. He began an immediate foot chase. While the man tried to escape by running across Freeway Drive, the officer used a taser. The suspect fell to the ground, and a southbound vehicle struck him. The suspect died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the 37-year-old officer utilized a department-issued Taser.
The Skagit Multiple Agency Response Team currently investigations the collision.
