1 Killed in South Sacramento Hit-and-Run Accident on 5 Freeway
SOUTH SACRAMENTO, CA (June 4, 2020) – Tuesday night, a shooting incident ended with a fatal crash on 5 Freeway in South Sacramento.
According to CHP officials, a 29-year-old man was traveling south on 5 Freeway just before 9:00 p.m. He drove a sedan with two passengers, his girlfriend, and a 20-year-old male backseat passenger.
For unidentified reasons, the backseat passenger shot the driver. Then, he forced him to pull over in the fast lane of the highway.
The driver and his girlfriend then exited the car. However, the shooter drove the vehicle and hit the 29-year-old driver before fleeing the scene.
After the hit-and-run incident, a Honda sedan also hit the male victim who was still down on the fast lane.
The Fatal Crash on 5 Freeway Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation
The girlfriend reported the incident to the authorities. After the first responders’ arrival, they located the victim deceased, just north of 43rd Avenue.
At about 10:20 p.m., the officers found the Chevy sedan left on the right shoulder of 80 Freeway near Alamo Drive in Vacaville with blood in it.
CHP officials set up a perimeter in the area and captured the suspect. Then, they took him into custody on homicide charges. At this time, this identity wasn’t released yet.
Meanwhile, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is withholding the victim’s identity due to pending family notification.
