Officers Arrested Miriam Vela Estrada in Lompoc Collision
Lompoc, WA (May 25, 2022) – On Monday, Shirley Cavazos, 50, of Lompoc, lost her life, while officers arrested Miriam Vela Estrada, 27, also of Lompoc, in a suspected DUI crash on J Street.
The fatal crash took place at about 10 p.m. next to K Street, north of Laurel Avenue.
According to the investigators, Vela Estrada was speeding and driving recklessly and lost control.
At the same time, Cavazos was getting out of her vehicle to walk into her home when she was struck by Vela Estrada.
Officers say Vela Estrada also struck gas and water lines and a fence in the area. They added that the outside of the apartment building appeared damaged.
Right away, the paramedics took Juarez to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
On the other hand, Vela Estrada did not sustain injuries from the collision. Reports say she initially fled the area. However, the authorities located her and took her into custody on suspicion of felony DUI, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and felony hit-and-run.
Meanwhile, the officers ask anyone to call the police with any details that may be helpful to their investigation.
We at Sweet Lawyers would like to send our sympathies to the family and friends of Shirley Cavazos. May you find courage during this time of sorrow.
Losing a Loved One in a Traffic Accident
It is normal for someone to feel devastated when an unexpected tragedy like this one happened. That is why it is important to know that if we lost a dear one in an accident, we may recover damages through a wrongful death suit.
A wrongful death suit allows families to hold parties liable for the irrevocable damages they have caused. It is a civil action brought forth by relatives of a deceased victim whose death was caused by another person’s negligence.
One of its benefits is that it alleviates most or all of the financial burden the death of a relative has generated.
Meanwhile, are you aware that nearly 1.25 million people die in traffic accidents every year?
That means, on average, road accidents cause 3,287 fatalities per day. With such figures, road accidents are the leading cause of death in the U.S. for people aged 1-54.
