Afternoon Head-On Collision in Shingletown Kills 1 Passenger and Injures 3 Others
SHINGLETOWN, CA (March 23, 2019) – A male passenger was killed following a head-on crash Saturday afternoon in Shingletown, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened around 12:40 p.m. on Highway 44 at Airport Way.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Volkswagen Jetta was heading eastbound on Highway 44 when it crossed over the westbound lane and collided head-on with a Ford Explorer that was traveling westbound.
The impact killed the passenger of the Jetta. The victim was only identified as 29-year-old Shingletown man.
The driver of the Jetta, a 24-year-old Wyatt William Coble of Shingletown, suffered moderate injuries.
The Ford SUV’s driver, a 36-year-old Jessica Erin Mauldin of Susanville, was seriously injured. A 6-year-old passenger in the Ford sustained minor injuries.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a factor in the crash. CHP is still investigating the incident.
