Bexar County Sheriff’s Deputy Injured in Wurzbach Road Collision [San Antonio, TX]

Officers Search for Suspect Driver in San Antonio Hit-and-Run Crash

San Antonio, TX (October 4, 2024) – A Bexar County sheriff’s deputy was injured in a Wurzbach Road collision Thursday morning.

It was about 7:30 a.m. when the officer was struck by a vehicle outside St. Matthew Catholic Church near Vance Jackson Road.

The deputy ended up on the hood of the car and witnesses came to his aid. The deputy sustained an abrasion to the forehead.

Investigators said a person came out of the church parking lot and stopped in front of the suspect’s vehicle. That is when the officer gets out of the vehicle.

Afterward, the suspect sped off again and later abandoned the car in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Tioga Drive.

Sheriff’s deputies sealed off the area in the hope of stopping the driver from escaping, but they did not find him.

Officers said the vehicle involved in the Wurzbach Road collision had a broken windshield.

Distracted driving can be defined as anything that takes your attention away from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, eating, drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment system, or navigation system – any activity that distracts you from driving safely.

There is no doubt that texting is one of the most alarming distractions. Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds.

You cannot drive safely unless you use your full attention. Any non-driving activity you do is a potential distraction and increases your risk of crashing.
