1 Dead in Sonora Motorcycle Accident on Highway 12 near Southworth Road
SONORA, CA (April 25, 2023) – Saturday morning, Shawn Powers suffered injuries in a fatal motorcycle wreck on Highway 12.
The incident occurred just before 11:30 a.m. on Highway 12 near Southworth Road.
According to reports, a 50-year-old unidentified man from Valley Springs rode a 2021 Harley Davidson. Reports said that the man traveled behind 38-year-old Shawn Powers of Valley Springs driving an SUV.
Then, the SUV slowed down to make a left-hand turn.
As Powers began to turn, the rider tried to pass on the left-hand side. However, the two vehicles crashed.
The CHP confirmed that the rider traveled at “a high rate of speed.”
As a result of the crash, the motorcycle rider succumbed to injuries at the scene.
Meanwhile, Power sustained “major injuries” and was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
