Sharon Meler Dies after Rear-End Crash in Yucca Valley
YUCCA VALLEY, CA (May 29, 2019) — An elderly woman died while three others sustained injuries in a crash in Yucca Valley Monday afternoon. Officials identified the elderly woman as 84-year-old Sharon Meler of Yucca Valley.
The Sheriff’s Department said the incident occurred at around 3:10 p.m. on Old Woman Springs Road at Terra Vista Road. Meler was driving a Subaru Impreza at the time of the crash. She was waiting for oncoming traffic to pass before turning left when a northbound Ford F-150 truck rear-ended her vehicle.
The impact pushed the Subaru into oncoming traffic. As a result, the Subaru collided with a southbound white Cadillac CTS.
Meler suffered critical injuries. Also critically injured were the occupants of the Cadillac – a child, a woman, and the male driver who was trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters rescued him using the Jaws of Life.
Emergency responders triaged all four people. They also received advanced life-saving care before being transported to trauma centers.
An ambulance took the woman in the passenger seat of the Cadillac to the Yucca Valley Airport. Subsequently, a Mercy Air helicopter transported her to Desert Regional Medical Center.
In the meantime, a ground ambulance took Meler, the man, and the child to Desert Regional Medical Center. The Riverside County coroner said Meler died from her injuries at the hospital. She was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m.
Further investigation of this fatal crash is underway.
Our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of Sharon Meler.
