2 Dead and 4 Injured After Head-On Crash on 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (September 22, 2024) – On Saturday, 34-year-old Sharon Gina Maire Bejarano and a man died in a head-on crash on 83rd Avenue. 

A crash in west Phoenix on Saturday resulted in the deaths of two people and left several others, including children, seriously injured. 

Around 1:20 p.m., Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a head-on collision near 83rd Avenue and McDowell Road. 

According to the sheriff’s office, a man and a woman were killed in the crash, while four other individuals were transported to the hospital. Among the injured were children, some of whom were reported to have “very serious injuries” and were also hospitalized.

Family members at the scene identified the woman killed as 34-year-old Sharon Gina Maire Bejarano. Her aunt shared that Bejarano’s three young daughters were in the vehicle with her, all, sustaining broken arms and legs. 

The girls underwent surgery and are expected to make full recoveries. The family is currently raising funds to cover funeral and hospital expenses.

Dozens of people, including bystander Adriana Erives, gathered near the crash site. Erives expressed her shock at the severity of the accident, stating, “I feel terrible. It really impacts you. 

I’ve seen crashes before, but nothing like this.” As a mother, she was particularly heartbroken to hear that children were involved and shared her hope for their recovery.

The roads remained closed for several hours and reopened around 7:20 p.m. 

Detectives continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and no further details have been released at this time.
