Robert Giron Arrested on DUI Crash on Highway 99 at Copus Road that Kills His Female Pasenger
BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 26, 2019) – A woman was killed following a DUI crash Friday evening on Highway 99 near Copus Road. She was identified as 27-year-old Shannon Nicole West.
Authorities responded to the incident around 8:30 p.m. According to reports, West was a passenger inside a BMW that was struck by a Dodge pickup truck.
According to the CHP, Robert Giron was driving the BMW southbound on Highway 99, when he failed to stop at a stop sign. He subsequently traveled directly through the intersection and in front of the Dodge.
The front of the Dodge consequently struck the right side of the BMW as a result.
Responding paramedics pronounced West dead on scene, due to the impact of the collision.
Giron reportedly suffered major injuries following the crash. He has also been arrested for felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
The driver of the Dodge pickup complained of pain, and was eventually hospitalized.
Investigation of this incident is still currently ongoing.
