One Woman Dead, Another Injured in Butler County Crash
Neelyville, MO (October 4, 2024) On Tuesday evening, 38-year-old Shanea Brown of Poplar Bluff died while another woman was hurt after a tragic crash on Highway 53.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the fatal crash happened at about 9:15 p.m. at the intersection of Missouri Highway 53 and Missouri Highway 142.
Reports say that Brown was driving a 1987 Chrysler 5th Avenue when she collided with the side of a 2022 Kia Carnival, driven by a 32-year-old woman, also from Poplar Bluff.
Emergency responders transported Brown to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The 32-year-old driver of the Kia sustained moderate injuries and was also taken to the same hospital for treatment.
Authorities noted that Brown was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, while the Kia driver was. Both vehicles were totaled in the collision. This incident marks the 47th traffic-related death in southeast Missouri for 2024.
