Crash on Thomas Devore Bridge Sends Several People to Hospitals
HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA (July 4, 2019) – A multi-vehicle crash on the Thomas Devore Bridge left several people injured Tuesday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 6:00 p.m. just west of the North Bank Road exit. Mark Nelson who drove by the accident said it involved a Honda Civic, a John Deere tractor, and a Hoopa Police vehicle.
Officers requested three ambulances to transport the injured parties to hospitals.
The events leading to the crash were not yet clear. However, a CHP officer on the scene said what they know was that a slow-moving tractor had just entered the freeway. It was possible that the Honda Civic slowed for the tractor and the Hoopa Patrol vehicle hit both vehicles.
The Hoopa Police vehicle had an officer and at least one person being taken to the Humboldt County Jail. Further investigation of the crash is underway.
Driving can be very dangerous and almost anything can happen if you are not prepared. It is important to always drive within the posted speed limit and abide by all traffic laws. Slow down if you see traffic stalling ahead to avoid hitting other vehicles.
