1 Killed and Several Hurt in Sunnyside Auto Accident on Independence Road
SUNNYSIDE, WA (July 28, 2020) – Late Sunday morning, several people suffered injuries in a fatal crash on Independence Road.
The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office came to the crash scene at around 11:30 a.m. on Independence Road and Scoon Road.
According to officers, it seems that a full-size passenger truck driver failed to yield at the stop sign southbound on Scoon Road. Then, the truck collided with another truck.
The deputies confirmed that the driver who didn’t stop at the shop sign suffered fatal injuries. Meanwhile, three occupants from the same truck, including two juveniles, were transported to the hospital with injuries.
Furthermore, two occupants inside the other truck were also transported to the hospital for evaluation of injuries.
At this time, the authorities do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. However, they continue to investigate.
Moreover, the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit conducts a follow-up investigation.
The responding units of the crash include the patrol personnel from the Sheriff’s Office, Sunnyside Police Department personnel, and the Sunnyside Fire Department. The Yakima County Coroner’s Office also helps in this investigation.
