Seven People Hurt, William Mog Arrested after Indio DUI Hit-and-Run Collision
INDIO, CA (April 8, 2019) – Seven people sustained injuries following a DUI hit-and-run crash in Indio on Wednesday, April 3.
Officers arrested 25-year-old William Mog, of Bermuda Dunes on suspicion of hit-and-run, driving under the influence and possession of narcotics, according to jail records. He was being held at the Indio jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
According to sheriff’s officials, just after 8:30 p.m., emergency crews rushed to a two-vehicle crash in the area of Monroe Street and Avenue 52 in Indio.
Firefighters and California Highway Patrol officers arrived first at the area. They found seven people in one of the vehicles with minor injuries.
While waiting for Riverside County sheriff’s deputies to arrive on the scene, CHP officers detained Mog.
Mog allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and then collided into the vehicle occupied by seven people, according to deputies. After that, Mog tried to flee the scene on foot as his car reportedly caught fire. However, officers caught him a short time later, officials stated.
Fire officials said that although they received reports that there are flames, there was no vehicle on fire when they arrived.
Deputies said Mog appeared to be under the influence of an unidentified drug. Yet, they could not confirm which drug until tests results arrived.
All seven people in the other vehicle declined to be brought to a hospital.
