1 Person Dead in Houston Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 59 and Trinity River Bridge
HOUSTON, TX (January 17, 2024) – On Monday, Selina Gilchriest died in a devastating multi-vehicle crash on Highway 59 and Trinity River Bridge.
The incident happened on U.S. Highway 59 South, on the Trinity River Bridge between San Jacinto County and Polk County.
According to the Texas DPS, a southbound Toyota Tundra lost control for still unknown reasons and collided with a Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer which then collided with a southbound Volkswagen Beetle. Moments later, an International truck tractor semi-trailer slowed down due to the earlier incident and was struck by a different Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer.
Moreover, after the second crash, a Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer stopped due to the second incident and was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Silverado. Then, a Chevrolet Impala rear-ended a Toyota Rav4 that triggered a chain reaction crash involving a Ford F-150. Also, a Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer veered to the left to avoid the vehicles involved in the crash ahead but was struck by a Nissan passenger car.
Furthermore, responders transported the driver of the Chevrolet, 44-year-old Jaqueline Teeters with non-life-threatening injuries, the driver of the Ford, 37-year-old Drew Broom with non-life-threatening injuries, and an 8-year-old child passenger with non-life-threatening-injuries-, to a CHI St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment. Then, authorities confirmed that a passenger of the Ford was pinned between the vehicle and a freightliner when she exited her vehicle, and died in the crash.
At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
Due to limited information, the Texas DPS continued to investigate the crash.
