Pedestrian Fatally Injured in Crash on 5 Freeway near Yesler Way
SEATTLE, WA (February 17, 2018) – An unidentified man was struck and killed by a car on Interstate 5 near Yesler Way, on Saturday morning.
The Washington State Patrol reported a fatal accident around 3:10 AM. The pedestrian was said to be on the southbound lanes of the 5 freeway, near the Yesler Way collector-distributor, when he was hit by a southbound Kia Optima.
The man was then hit by several other vehicles on the road. Authorities and emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the crash; he was pronounced dead from blunt injuries. A 35-year-old Federal Way woman was driving the Optima; she was not injured in the crash. No other injuries or damages have been reported at this time.
Identity of the deceased victim has not yet been released.
Two lanes of the freeway were blocked for almost 3 hours while investigation took place. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fatal accident.
