Pedestrian Hospitalized after Hit by Car while Jaywalking near International Boulevard
SEATAC, WA (April 18, 2018) – A man was struck and injured by a car while jaywalking on South 170th Street near Intersection Boulevard, late Wednesday night.
The incident occurred at 11:45 PM, according to reports. Deputies and emergency medics arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a car hitting a pedestrian in the area. Responding officers found the 59-year-old man lying in the road unconscious and bleeding from life-threatening injuries.
He was rushed to the Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of a broken leg, possible skull fracture, and multiple other injuries. No other information was immediately released about the identity and the medical condition of the victim.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the man was wearing dark clothing and jaywalking across 170th St with his girlfriend. The girlfriend ran back when she saw an incoming vehicle, but the man miscalculated and thought he could make it. The man kept walking across the street and was struck.
Some lanes of 170th Street and International Boulevard were shut down during the investigation but have since reopened. The driver of the vehicle was not impaired or injured. There are no charges filed at this time, as officials continue to investigate.
